The 76th annual Golden Globes, hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, recognized the best in film and television at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Jan. 6 with some prominent awards handed to LGBT projects.

“Bohemian Rhapsody,” the Queen biopic starring Rami Malek as queer frontman Freddie Mercury, won Best Motion Picture Drama. Malek’s portrayal of Mercury was also honored with the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Before raking in the accolades, the film was already a box office hit becoming the biggest-selling music biopic in history.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced their nominations for the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards for best in film and television on Thursday and some prominent LGBT projects made the cut.

“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” received the most television nominations (four) including for Best Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and a Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television nomination for Darren Criss’ portrayal of Andrew Cunanan.

Queen and Adam Lambert ‘Rhapsody’ tour dates include stop in Tampa

TAMPA | Queen and Adam Lambert are hitting the road together again for a North American tour called “The Rhapsody Approaches,” the band announced on its website Dec. 3.

The six-week tour will hit 23 cities starting in July 2019 and has two planned stops in Florida — the BB&T Center in Fort Lauderdale Aug. 17, 2019, and the Amalie Arena in Tampa Aug. 18, 2019.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ dominates box office with $50 million opening weekend

“Bohemian Rhapsody” was the number one movie over the weekend bringing in an estimated $50 million in North America and $141.7 million internationally, according to CNN.

The film was expected to earn $35 million in U.S sales but the Queen biopic, which stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, drew in the crowds.

First things first, for all of those concerned about the way that Freddie Mercury’s homosexuality is depicted in Bryan Singer’s Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” you can relax.

From the minute you first see Mercury, played brilliantly by Rami Malek (complete with prosthetic teeth), there is no doubt that the king of Queen was, in fact, a queen. Yes, his relationship with “fiancée” Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton) gets a fair amount of screen time. But, so do his same-sex attractions, from being cruised by a trucker outside of a men’s room to his relationships with manager Paul (Allen Leech) and later his lover Jim (Aaron McCusker).

Rami Malek goes viral for declining to record a video for a fan

Rami Malek, who stars as Freddie Mercury in the upcoming Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” unexpectedly went viral after he declined to record a video for a fan.

According to Vanity Fair, 19-year-old fan Xan Black bumped into Malek on the street and started recording their interaction. Black asks if Malek would record a video for her friend and Malek says no but offers to take a picture instead. When Malek reaches to take the photo, he discovers that the conversation was recorded.

Teaser trailer to Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ starring Rami Malek released

A teaser trailer for the highly anticipated “Bohemian Rhapsody” biopic was released May 15, featuring “Mr. Robot” actor Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury reincarnate.

The film, which hits theaters Nov. 2, chronicles the British rock band Queen and lead vocalist Mercury’s rise to stardom. The film culminates with the Live Aid concert of 1985, “one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music,” the official movie synopsis states.

Director Bryan Singer fired from Queen biopic

Director Bryan Singer has been fired from directing the Queen biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox made the decision after Singer repeatedly failed to show up to set. The director also had confrontations with stars Rami Malek, who plays Freddie Mercury, and Tom Hollander, who plays Queen manager Jim Beach.

Queen has confirmed that the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek is “finally happening.”

The film, which is tentatively titled “Bohemian Rhapsody,” is scheduled to start filming mid-September in the U.K., the band confirmed on its official site.
