Adam Rippon retires from competitive figure skating

Adam Rippon is retiring from competitive figure skating.

Rippon, 29, confirmed to CBS News on Nov. 19 that he won’t be pursuing the career path any further. He already checked off plenty of milestones during the 2018  Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Rippon went on to place 10th in the men’s single skating competition and helped Team USA take home the bronze medal in a team figure skating event. This made him the first out U.S. male athlete to win a medal.

Gus Kenworthy revealed the unexpected death of the dog he rescued during the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea in an emotional Instagram post.

The Olympic freeskier rescued Beemo from a meat farm in February. Kenworthy shared that Beemo’s death was caused by a birth defect.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump welcomed Team USA Olympic athletes to the White House on Friday, congratulating them on representing the U.S. at the 2018 winter games.

“You made us very proud,” Trump said to the rows of young men and women standing on the White House’s north portico in matching windbreakers. “You overcame setbacks, you powered through obstacles. And I will tell you this, because of your hard work and your sacrifice, you were given the greatest honor in sports: to represent the United States as an Olympic athlete.”

Gus Kenworthy and his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas were caught candidly kissing by cameras during a broadcast of a qualifying run at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. This was the first time a gay kiss involving an Olympian was televised.

Kenworthy, who placed 12th in his final run, didn’t realize his kiss with his boyfriend was going to be broadcast around the world but explained that it was monumental for him. According to Kenworthy, he had wanted to kiss his boyfriend during the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics but didn’t because he was closeted.

Gus Kenworthy sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to discuss being out at this year’s Winter Olympics, the inspiration behind his Head & Shoulders ad and Vice President Mike Pence leading the U.S. delegation to the Olympics.

“It’s going to be a different experience than last time around because I’m not in the closet,” Kenworthy says of being out for the first time during the Olympic games. “I just want to meet as many athletes as I can, get to enjoy the opening and closing ceremonies, [and] hopefully ski the best I possibly can.”
