Radio host Elvis Duran gets engaged to boyfriend Alan Carr

New York City’s Z100 radio host Elvis Duran got engaged to his longtime boyfriend of almost eight years Alan Carr on Friday the 13th.

Carr, a zookeeper hailing from Staten Island, popped the question with the words “Elvis, Will You Marry Me?” written on an open umbrella, a Friday the 13th superstition.

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs popped the question to his boyfriend, candle maker Char Defrancesco, with a surprise flash mob proposal at Chipotle on Wednesday.

Jacobs posted the video on Instagram which shows a group of people, including some of the restaurant workers, dancing to “Kiss” by Prince at a New York City Chipotle location. At the end of the dance, Jacobs gets down on one knee and proposes. Defrancesco can be seen nodding his head yes.

One police officer got a heartwarming surprise while working the 45th annual London Pride parade.

The British Transport Police (BTP) posted a short video of one of their officers getting engaged to her girlfriend. In the video, the officer approaches her girlfriend, who then drops to one knee and pulls out a ring.

Kansas Senate passes religious protection bill

TOPEKA – A proposal in Kansas for protecting religious groups on public college campuses that want to restrict memberships to like-minded believers is advancing in the Republican-dominated Legislature, and a leading gay-rights advocate calls it “a license to discriminate.”

The state Senate approved the measure March 19 on a 30-8 vote, sending it to the House. Supporters say it allows groups to require members to adhere to common, sincerely held beliefs without having to take in non-believers.

Transgender guidelines for Minnesota prep sports considered

The guidelines would be the first in the state for transgender student athletes. The proposal describes how schools should accommodate locker room privacy and outlines the medical documentation that students must have to identify themselves as transgender.

Same-sex spouses may get military benefits

Washington, D.C. (AP) – Same-sex spouses of military members could get health care, housing and other benefits by the end of August under a proposal being considered by the Pentagon. But earlier plans to provide benefits to gay partners who are not married may be reversed.

A draft Defense Department memo obtained Aug. 7 by The Associated Press says the department instead may provide up to 10 days of leave to military personnel in same-sex relationships so they can travel to states where they can marry legally.
