PLOCK, Poland (AP) | LGBTQ activists held a central Polish city’s first pride parade with only minor incidents on Aug. 10 amid a deep divide in the country over gay and lesbian rights.

The parade in Plock, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of Warsaw, came three weeks after anti-gay violence marred the first pride march in the eastern city of Bialystok. Far-right radicals attacked march participants with rocks, glass bottles and firecrackers on July 20, causing injuries and riot police to intervene.

Central Florida LGBTQ pioneer Joel Strack passes away at age 59

ORLANDO | Joel Strack—an LGBTQ leader, activist and pioneer in Central Florida’s fight for equality— passed away in the early morning hours of July 15. He was 59.

Strack was instrumental in launching what would become known as Gay Day at the Magic Kingdom, helped create Orlando’s first Pride parade and assisted in founding both the Orlando Gay Chorus and the Gay and Lesbian History Museum.

Hate crime charges filed in South Florida gay pride parade attack

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Hate crime charges have been filed against four men accused of attacking two men and shouting anti-gay slurs following Miami Beach’s gay pride parade.

The enhanced hate crime charges mean the four could face as much as 30 years in prison if convicted, rather than only 15 years on previously filed aggravated battery charges. The Miami Herald reports that prosecutors brought the hate crime charges Thursday.

Kendra Stefani Jordany, a transgender woman who is running for the Central American Parliament, is among the roughly 400 people who took part in the march in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula.

DILI, East Timor (AP) – LGBTQ rights have taken a step forward in East Timor with its first LGBTQ Pride parade and the prime minister announcing that the young nation’s development depends on respecting the rights of all its citizens.

The parade in the capital, Dili, on June 29 attracted several hundred people and was supported by local and international organizations including the Hatutan youth group, the U.N. and U.S. Embassy.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) – Police say the suspect in weekend bank robbery in Northampton may have used the city’s gay pride parade as cover for the heist.

Police say 37-year-old Jennifer Brumer was arrested April 6 about 15 minutes after a TD Bank branch was robbed of less than $1,000 in cash.

Tel Aviv pride parade attracts 200,000

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Colorfully-dressed drag queens and bare-chested muscular men on floats partied alongside thousands of others from the LGBT community at Tel Aviv’s annual gay pride parade on June 3, the largest event of its kind in the Middle East.

Israeli media reported that 200,000 people joined the festivities.

Rhode Island court throws out firefighters’ gay pride lawsuits

Providence, R.I. (AP) – The Rhode Island Supreme Court has thrown out lawsuits brought by two Providence firefighters who said their constitutional rights were violated when they were ordered to drive a truck in a gay pride parade despite their religious objections.

The firefighters, Theodore Fabrizio and Stephen Deninno, argued that they are Roman Catholics and therefore do not support or condone being gay.
