Actor Danny Pintauro, best known for playing the young son Jonathan on the 80s sitcom Who’s the Boss?, revealed he is HIV-Positive on an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?

“I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I wasn’t ready. I’m ready now,” Pintauro told Oprah Winfrey in an interview on the show.

FDA releases plan to ease restrictions on gay blood donation

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration is outlining its plan to end the nation’s lifetime ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, a 32-year-old policy that many medical groups and gay activists say is no longer justified.

The FDA on May 12 released proposed guidelines for screening blood donors at increased risk of carrying HIV. Under the proposal, the current blanket ban on donations from gay men would be replaced with a policy barring donations from men who have had sex with another man in the last year. The Obama administration previously announced the policy shift in December.

Positive Living: Finding surprising support

I did something recently I swore I would never do. I joined an HIV support group.

My reason for not ever seeking out a support group for the disease I’ve lived with for nearly 23 years was not exactly a noble one. What I was afraid would happen was that there would be a bunch of “newbies” who might be as much of an emotional mess as I was when I was newly diagnosed. I have to regularly deal with some whacked out newcomers in AA and I just didn’t think I wanted to go through that with HIV.

Bishops say gays have gifts to offer church

VATICAN CITY (AP) – Catholic bishops showed unprecedented openness Oct. 13 to accepting the real lives of many Catholics today, saying gays had gifts to offer the church and should be accepted and that there were “positive” aspects to a couple living together without being married.

A two-week meeting of bishops on family issues arrived at its halfway point with a document summarizing the closed-door debate so far. No decisions were announced, but the tone of the report was one of almost-revolutionary acceptance, rather than condemnation, with the aim of guiding Catholics toward the ideal of a lasting marriage.
