Orlando AIDS Walk raises $121,000 for Hope & Help Center

The Orlando AIDS Walk marched around Lake Eola for its 20th year to raise money for the Hope & Help Center on March 28.

The two mile walk, a fundraiser for HIV treatment and prevention in Central Florida, brought in more than $121,000 and 1,400 walkers according to Kristine Iverson, director of development and marketing for the Hope and Help Center.

Vowed and Proud: Orlando City Hall Weddings Jan. 6, 2015

More than 50 couples chorused “I do!” on the Orlando City Hall front steps Jan. 6, the first day same-sex couples could be legally married in Central Florida.

At 9 a.m., pairs of radiant couples marched out of the City Hall front doors, most of them hand in hand, many cheering, celebrating and proudly waving their newly-minted marriage licenses.

2nd annual Turnabout at Quench Lounge

Members of Quench Lounge’s bar staff and a few friends from the community switched gender roles for the night to raise money for Metro Wellness and Community Centers Nov. 20.

The 2nd Annual Turnabout was high-energy and packed the popular bar. The evening was hosted by Jaeda Fuentes and entertainers donated their tips to Metro. Raffle prizes were also donated by area businesses and helped raise additional money for charity.

Headdress Ball 25

Hope & Help Center’s Headdress Ball celebrated 25 years in a big way on Sept. 20, raising more than $640,000 for the HIV/AIDS charity. Fabulous entertainment, over-the-top art and a performance by Debbie Gibson helped make the black-tie gala one for the record books.

First Annual Miss Comedy Queen All Star Pageant

Trixie Deluxxe hosted the First Annual Miss Comedy Queen All Star Pageant at Parliament House June 4, with all proceeds benefiting the John Tweeka Barber Fund.

Gidget Galore ate half of a Publix cake onstage, threw it in the trash, had second thoughts and took it out and ate more, to the sounds of screams of encouragement from the audience.
