Soul star Maxwell returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall for the first time since 2014! The SUMMERS’ 2016 Tour arrives Thursday, August 4 at 7:30pm, with special guest Ro James. Maxwell was enormously important in defining and shaping the neo-soul movement that rose to prominence over the latter half of the ’90s. Drawing his greatest inspiration from the concept of the R&B auteur (looking to artists like Prince, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, etc.), he recorded some of the most ambitious R&B of his time, becoming wildly popular and often earning critical raves in the process.

In a statement following the unveiling of Lake By the Ocean, Maxwell said he’s been recording his new album in New York over the past few years with some of the collaborators who helped him on his breakout 1996 album Urban Hang Suite. “I’m working with all of the same people on the new album,” Maxwell said. “It’s always been a family type of thing, and I think that that’s what, maybe, has made it special. It feels, to me, even better than what we did 20 years ago.” Every ticket purchased online for Maxwell’s tour will include a CD of blackSUMMERS’night.
