Trans women play visible role in Women’s March

Two transgender women gave rousing speeches on the main stage at a rally for the National Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 19.

The third annual Women’s March and rally took place one day after march organizers released a sweeping 68-page Women’s Agenda document that includes strongly worded support for LGBT equality, including a call for Congress to pass the LGBT rights bill known as the Equality Act.

‘I Care March’ on Washington planned for Sept. 15

A Facebook page and website surfaced last month to organize and promote an “I Care March” on Washington scheduled for Sept. 15 that organizers say is aimed at challenging the Trump administration by showcasing a wide range of progressive causes.

Organizers say LGBT rights will be an important part of the message projected by the event, which, among other things, will include a rally on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

Gay-organized Trump rally draws just 18 attendees

A total of just 18 people turned out on Saturday, June 1, for a Make America Great Again Free Speech Rally on the Ellipse section of the National Mall near the White House that was organized by Gays for Trump President Peter Boykin.

Boykin and several others who spoke at the rally said they were certain that each of those attending the event represents thousands of others, both gay and straight, who are conservative, loyal Americans that deeply believe Donald Trump will provide the leadership needed to get the nation back on track.

Gays for Trump leader organizing ‘Free Speech’ Rally on Mall

The president of the North Carolina-based group Gays for Trump is a lead organizer of a July 1 MAGA [Make America Great Again] Free Speech Rally on the National Mall near the White House.

Peter Boykin, who founded Gays for Trump during the 2016 presidential election campaign, said the July 1 rally on the Mall would be a non-partisan celebration of the Make America Great Again theme, which he said would help make the country a better place to live for “everyone, gay, straight, black, white – everyone.”

Equality March draws thousands from across country

Carrying rainbow flags and signs reading “Love, not hate, makes America great” and “Resist Trump,” tens of thousands of LGBT people and their supporters marched from the White House to the National Mall near the U.S. Capitol on Sunday in the Equality March for Unity and Pride.

Through dozens of signs held by marchers saying “Remember Pulse” and in speeches at a rally on the Mall, march participants noted the event took place one day before the first anniversary the shooting rampage at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., that took the lives of 49 mostly LGBT people.

Equality March to kick off near White House

The LGBT march on Washington scheduled for Sunday, June 11, which is officially called the Equality March for Unity and Pride, will travel in front of the White House before heading south on 15th Street, N.W. to Constitution Avenue and end on the National Mall at 7th Street, N.W.

Organizers for the first time disclosed the route of the march and made an appeal for donations to help pay for what they say will be an historic demonstration for LGBT equality and diversity in a statement released to the Washington Blade.
