Ohio capital once again site of Gay Softball World Series

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) | Ohio’s capital city is once again hosting the Gay Softball World Series, dubbed the world’s largest LGBT single sport, week-long athletic competition.

The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance on Sunday announced that Columbus will host the 2020 series in August of that year.

Tampa welcomes thousands for 2018 Gay Softball World Series

TAMPA | Tampa Bay will host the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance’s (NAGAAA) Gay Softball World Series (GSWS) for the first time in the organization’s history Sept. 3-8.

Formed in 1977, NAGAAA is an international sports organization comprised of male and female softball players. The 501(c)(3) is dedicated to providing the LGBTQ community the opportunity to participate in organized competitions throughout North America.

LGBTs—and a restricted number of allies—vie for World Series rights

Every Sunday morning—since 1993 in Tampa and 1996 in Orlando—LGBTs and allies wake up early, put on their softball gear and head to the fields.
This year is no different, as both leagues are in full swing of their spring season which serves as a qualifier to the Gay Softball World Series, slated for Dallas this summer.

The Central Florida Softball League in Orlando threw its first pitch of 2014 on Feb. 23 at Lake Fairview Park, where well over 100 people gathered. The “Sounds of Freedom,” the local LGBT marching band, played the national anthem proudly at full blast as Parliament House owner Susan Unger threw the first pitch of the day.
