MTV VMAs noms include Hayley Kiyoko, Cardi B

The MTV VMAs announced its 2018 nominations which include big recognition for Cardi B and the Carters.

Cardi B received the most nominations (10) including for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. The Carters (Beyonce and Jay-Z) followed close behind with eight nominations for their video  “Apeshit.” Childish Gambino and Drake earned seven nominations each, Bruno Mars received six and Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello came in at five nominations.

Out comedian Kevin Allison brings award-winning podcast to Tampa and Orlando

Comedian Kevin Allison knows a thing or two about coming out. As one part of the hive-mind behind MTV’s cult classic sketch series “The State,” Allison publicly came out in the mid-’90s. He says it was an easy decision because he knew he was gay with his first conscious thoughts.

Since then, he’s dedicated his life to helping others come out, not just as a member of the LGBTQ community, but about anything—utilizing his award-winning live show and podcast “RISK.” With over two million monthly downloads, it highlights real people (and the occasional celebrity) as they share real stories in public that they never thought they’d dare to discuss.

MTV invites transgender military members to VMAs

MTV has invited active transgender military service members to attend the 2017 Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Pentagon Spokesman Lt. Col. Paul Haverstick confirmed the report to CNN and says the military is considering it.

Jussie Smollett, Tituss Burgess keep #EyesOnChechnya in MTV advocacy video

Jussie Smollett, Tituss Burgess and Carson Kressley, among others, have joined forces with MTV to bring awareness to the anti-gay persecution in the Russian republic of Chechnya.

“In Chechnya, gay and bisexual men have been hunted down, rounded up, and continue to be illegally detained in prison. Many have been tortured and at least three men have been murdered,” reads a post on MTV’s website. “In spite of these horrors, not enough people are aware of what’s happening or taking action.Together we can raise the volume on the public outcry, and let the world know that we have our #EyesOnChechnya.”

Faux queen Sonique rocks the stage at VMAs

Parliament House Orlando’s very own faux queen* Sonique shared the stage with Miley Cyrus for the closing of what will be remembered as a very gay year for the VMAs. Cyrus, who revealed in a recent issue of Elle U.K. that she was pansexual, ended her hosting gig of the 2015 show with a dynamic performance highlighting LGBT youth and contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race, including Sonique.

“Congrats to our very own Footlight Player, Sonique and all 30 RuPaul’s Drag Race gals on last nights EPIC closing at the VMA’s! You all rocked it!” Parliament House said in a Facebook post.

Miley Cyrus launches foundation for LGBT, homeless youth

LOS ANGELES (AP) – When Miley Cyrus wears pasties or posts photos of her pink armpits, it’s not to be a provocateur. The 22-year-old says she’s just being herself, and she wants all young people to have that same opportunity.

That’s why she’s launching the Happy Hippie Foundation to help homeless and LGBT youth, adding that not all her past relationships were “straight, heterosexual” ones. Cyrus didn’t elaborate.

MTV’s ‘Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word’ to air next month

NEW YORK (AP) — Laverne Cox will host a documentary on MTV and Logo next month that profiles seven young transgender people.

The special, “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word,” will air simultaneously on the two channels on Oct. 17. Cox, a transgender actress, was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black.”
