Jesse Tyler Ferguson revealed that he came out to his parents after an embarrassing incident.

The “Modern Family” star shared the story as part of PEOPLE’s Coming Out Stories video series. He explained that he stole porn from his local bookstore when he was a freshman in high school. Ferguson was caught by metal detectors and his parents had to come get him.

At the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards, Lena Waithe became the first black woman to win the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

The Emmy was awarded for an episode of Netflix’s show Master of None. She co-wrote the season two episode titled “Thanksgiving” with show co-creator Aziz Ansari, which chronicled her experience coming out as a lesbian to her family.

‘Modern Family’ actor Ferguson featured at Ball State

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Emmy-nominated actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, from the TV show “Modern Family,” will visit Ball State University as a guest artist.

Ferguson will be at the school’s Muncie campus Dec. 1-3. He’s expected to give an informal talk and work closely with dance and theatre students.

The series, which premiered in 2009, is ABC’s top-rated comedy and the second biggest comedy behind sitcom phenomenon, “The Big Bang Theory.” Over its eight-season run, the show has won 22 Emmy awards and received 75 Emmy nominations.

Transgender child actor to guest star on ‘Modern Family’

ModFamLOS ANGELES (AP) – A transgender child actor will guest star on Sept. 28 night’s Modern Family.

Director Ryan Case has posted a picture of herself alongside 8-year-old Jackson Millarker on Instagram . She writes that Millarker will play Lily’s friend, Tom. Lily is the daughter of Cam and Mitchell, played on the show by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. A spokeswoman for ABC has confirmed Millarker’s appearance.

Streaming services have more LGBT characters than network TV

You are more likely to find an LGBT character in a series on your favorite online streaming media provider than on network television, according to recent report from GLAAD.

The LGBT media watchdog group crunched the numbers and found that streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime featured 43 regular LGBT characters across 23 series such as Orange is the New Black, Grace and Frankie, Transparent, Sense8 and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

GLAAD: Hollywood needs to do better

GLAAD has a new online campaign to battle what it says is Hollywood’s “lack of relevant representation of LGBT people in film.”

The organization criticized such films as Ted 2, Project X and Pain & Gain for their use of homophobic language and violence against LGBT characters, and pointed to a recent report that shows more than 80 percent of the major studio films released in 2014 had no LGBT characters whatsoever.
