Central Florida talent to bring Pulse-inspired play ‘After Orlando’ to Central Florida

Days after the Pulse shooting, Missing Bolts Productions’ Blair Baker and Zac Kline along with NoPassport Theatre Alliance’s Caridad Svich came together to create an international, playwright-driven theatre action in the wake to the tragedy.

“After Orlando,” a collection of short plays that were specifically written in response to Pulse, has been read at more than 75 venues across the U.S. and the U.K. Now, That Uppity Theatre Company and Mad Cow Theatre, in association with the Association for Theatre In Higher Education, Missing Bolts Productions and NoPassport Theatre Alliance will present a selection of scenes from the full play in a production called “After Orlando: A Collection of Readings” at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando on Aug. 9.

Mad Cow Theatre explores sexual identity, family tension with local run of ‘Fun Home’

After national tour stops in both Orlando and Tampa from the Tony Award-winning musical “Fun Home,” Orlando’s Mad Cow Theatre is putting on a production featuring local talent starting June 1.

“Fun Home,” the first Broadway musical to have a lesbian protagonist, is an adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic memoir. The show portrays Bechdel’s uncovering of her own sexuality, her strained relationship with her closeted gay father and the re-examination of the years leading up to his unexpected suicide. The hour and 40-minute show is seen through the eyes of a 43-year-old Alison who looks to the past as she writes the graphic novel the play is based on.
