Miss Sammy was the perfect host for the evening with show-stopping performances by April Fresh, Tora Himan and Lacie Browning. DJ Scott Robert was on hand to provide the perfect soundtrack as drinks flowed and guests mingled well into the night.

The Center Orlando hosts annual Celebrity Bartending fundraiser

ORLANDO | Local celebrities will go head-to-head in a competition for tips during The LGBT+ Center Orlando’s sixth annual Celebrity Bartending night at SAVOY Orlando Sept. 11.

LGBTQ and ally politicians, journalists, entertainers and more will be making drinks for attendees from 6 p.m. to midnight. All proceeds will benefit The Center for services such as STI testing and LGBT+ education and outreach in Central Florida.

ORLANDO | MBA Orlando went all out for its 2018 Pride Gala Business Awards at Universal CityWalk’s Hard Rock Live Aug. 4.

The show opened with Alina Alcantara and the Brunch Bunch performing the Academy Award-winning song “This Is Me” from the 2017 film musical “The Greatest Showman.” Emcee’s Jorge Estevez and Miss Sammy then took the stage with their always entertaining comedy back-and-forth.

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando, Inc. announced March 9 the recipients of the 2018 Orlando Diversity Awards which will be presented at the sixth annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast.

State House Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith was named as the Champion of Equality recipient, the Orlando Police Department’s Chief John Mina was named as the LGBT Ally of the Year and Orlando performer and activist Blue Star was named as this year’s LGBT Trailblazer.

ORLANDO | The Metropolitan Business Association celebrated 25 years, as well as the recognition of being named the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber of the Year, at their annual Pride Gala Business Awards for 2017 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando Nov. 4.

The community was dressed to the nines as they honored the best in LGBTQ business in Central Florida.

In the progressive neighborhood of the Mills/50 area, local resident Sam Singhaus, also known to many as the talented Miss Sammy, received an interesting letter regarding a “DUMP TRUMP” banner he hung outside of his home.

Sam explained that after months of writing to his senators and not seeing any change to the current administration, he felt it necessary to express his political opinion. But according to one salty neighbor, in Trump’s America, Sam is wrong.

MBA’s Pride in Business Awards Gala moves to November

ORLANDO | The Annual Metropolitan Business Association’s Pride in Business Awards Gala, originally scheduled for Oct. 7, will be moved to Nov. 4 from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m., with a sponsor reception beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Rosen Shingle Creek.

“There were some limitations for the original date that would have prohibited us from putting on the kind of show that the MBA attendees have become accustomed to,” Gala Committee Co-Chair Deb Ofsowitz says. “On top of that, when Irma came though, it hindered some of the vendors.”

Savoy Orlando’s Starlite Room gets into the theater game

Savoy has been the LGBTQ bar with a small town feel for more than a decade. In fact, it celebrates 13 years as Orlando’s small town gay bar this month.

In the last few years Savoy has undergone renovations and upgrades to its interior, and while the main bar has maintained its success with cool drinks and hot dancers, the other half has struggled to find its identity. Enter Orlando’s theater god Michael Wanzie.

Watermark celebrated with the Central Florida winners of the 2017 WAVE Awards at the Parliament House in Orlando March 10.

Guests were greeted in Parliment House’s main bar with tunes being spun by DJ Lindsey Leigh, decorated with beautiful arrangements by Lee James Floral Design and a delicious spread courtesy of John Michael Exquisite Weddings and Catering. First place winners took home awards in elegant frames courtesy of Tyrone’s Frame and Mirror from St. Petersburg.
