“Does this look OK?”

There are yachts. There is a breeze. There is Charlie Crist’s condo out of the corner of the eye. But on this day in St. Petersburg, March 22, there is only one figure that absolutely matters, and she’s sitting on a tree close to Cassis American Brasserie, posing for her cover shot.

Nadine Smith is the force behind most LGBTQ measures that have changed Florida’s societal landscape. Her calm tones weighted by heavy thoughts have come to define the nature of Equality Florida, the organization she formed with Miami’s Stratton Pollitzer 20 years ago. She played rugby at the Air Force academy, she says, but she didn’t know where the score would go thereafter.

Wedding Bells at Watermark: Michael Farmer and Boyd Lindsley

“Michael has loved me in a way I’ve never been loved before,” Boyd says about Michael. “I guess I learned how to be loved.”

Michael Farmer, Development Director for Equality Florida, and Boyd Lindsley, a faculty member and the Associate Director of UCF’s Nicholson School of Communication, first met at the Equality Florida Gala in 2010.

7,000 petitions delivered to Pam Bondi in support of marriage equality

Tallahassee – Equality Florida delivered 7,000 petitions to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office, asking her to withdraw her notice of appeal that has put a stay on a judge’s decision that Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.

“We have been gathering petitions all across the state to show Pam Bondi that our friends and our neighbors are asking her to do the right thing and to respect all of our families and to let Judge Garcia’s ruling stand,” said Jennie Reiken, a Get Engaged coordinator for Equality Florida. “It was just a great way for folks to be a part of the amazing work that’s going on here in Florida”
