GULFPORT | Metro Wellness & Community Centers held its annual fundraiser Nov. 10, benefiting the organization’s diverse lineup of LGBTQ programming and honoring community leaders.

The celebration took place at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport from 7-11 p.m. It honored three outstanding individuals for their excellence in leadership – St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Dr. Kanika Tomalin, Christina Burke and Todd Richardson. Metro CEO Lorraine Langlois was also celebrated for her 25 years of service and dedication to the Tampa Bay community.

ST. PETERSBURG | Metro Wellness & Community Centers will hold its annual fundraiser on Nov. 10, benefitting the organization’s diverse lineup of LGBTQ programming and honoring community leaders.

This year’s celebration, presented by Mail Meds pharmacy for the sixth consecutive year, will be a “PeaCocktail Party” held at the Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport from 7-11 p.m. The organization describes the gathering as a bold and colorful party, celebrating the beauty of Tampa Bay’s diversity.

Tampa Bay’s Overheard: Gala Greatness

Equality Florida’s 2018 St. Pete Gala was held May 12 at the Mahaffey Theater, raising a record total of $354,287 to support the organization’s work.

Una Voce: The Gay Men’s Chorus of Tampa Bay dazzled the sold-out event with song while guests dined, danced and donated in the name of equality. A total of 708 attendees, the largest of any Equality Florida Gala, raised over $26,000 in auctioned items alone.

On August 5, Metro Wellness & Community Centers’ summer camp program for youth presented“Take the Stage!” – its second annual talent show featuring LGBTQ+ youth. The show gave its audience the chance to witness the many talents of Tampa Bay’s young LGBTQ+ community, with participants from middle school and up.

Metro Charities has been trying to raise funds to renovate their Metro Wellness & Community Center’s St. Petersburg location ever since they purchased the building they are in earlier this year. They set a goal of one million dollars by the end of 2016 in order to move forward with the extensive renovations, updates and expansion they want to do, and they just got a lot closer to that goal thanks to an anonymous donor.

The secret angel of Metro Charities gave a gift of $100,000, but this gift came with a challenge. Anonymous challenged the Tampa Bay area, the LGBTQ community and anyone who benefits from or supports Metro and all the good work they do: Match me, bro.
