Today, the city of Orlando is known as a national leader in LGBTQ diversity and inclusion. This distinction has been a direct result of the intentional work of Mayor Buddy Dyer and his diverse leadership team at The City Beautiful.

Prior to the Supreme Court ruling granting same-sex marriage rights in the United States, Orlando was one of the first cities in Florida to pass a Domestic Partner Registry providing rights and protections for unmarried couples. This was quickly followed by the passage of Orlando’s Human Rights Ordinance protecting people against discrimination based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

Equality Florida brings transgender workplace training to Orlando

ORLANDO | Equality Florida will host the organization’s Transgender Dynamics in the Workplace workshop at the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 16.

The workshop includes a panel discussion with corporate leaders, as well as an appearance from Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. The event looks to educate attendees on transgender workplace issues and concerns, as well as offer ways to improve policies and protocols for transgender employees.

Orlando to buy Pulse, turn it into memorial

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The city of Orlando, Florida, has announced plans to purchase the Pulse nightclub and eventually convert the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history into a memorial.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer told the Orlando Sentinel  Nov. 7 that the city has reached a deal to buy the gay nightclub for $2.25 million.

Fringe Festival kicks off with ribbon cutting by Orlando mayor

The International Fringe Festival kicked off their 24th year with an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting at the Shakespeare Theater in Orlando on May 14.

“Happy Fringe,” declared Fringe executive director George Wallace as a crowd of Orlando theater fans witnessed Mayor Buddy Dyer cut the ceremonial ribbon and proclaimed the next 10 days as Fringe week.

Mayor Buddy Dyer announces run for fifth term

ORLANDO – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer gave his State of the City Address at the new Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center April 29 and announced he is running for a fifth term.

“Thank you Mayor Dyer for your support of inclusion, marriage equality and for mentioning the bullying initiative that Zebra Coalition partners with the city on,” wrote Dexter Foxworth, director of the Zebra Coalition, on his Facebook page after Dyer delivered his speech.

In a post on his Facebook page, Mayor Dyer stated “As Mayor of a community that is known worldwide for being a welcoming and inclusive place for everybody, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, I am pleased to declare today ‘Everyone Matters Day’ in the City of Orlando”.

Mayor Buddy Dyer: An Ally of Orlando
