Some same-sex parents can appear on Florida’s birth certificates

It looks like the Florida Department of Vital Statistics is taking a step toward making things right.

Although same-sex marriage has been legal in Florida since Jan. 6, 2015, the state has been dragging its feet when it comes to the rights of legally-married, same-sex parents to both appear on their children’s birth certificates.

Italy joins the rest of Europe in giving legal rights to same-sex couples

ROME (AP) – Italy has joined the rest of Europe in giving some legal rights to gay couples.

The lower Chamber of Deputies voted 369-193 with two abstentions May 11 to approve legislation already passed in February by the Senate.

Kentucky couple challenges same-sex marriage ban in federal court

Louisville, Ky. (AP) – A Louisville couple challenged Kentucky’s ban on same-sex marriages, saying the state isn’t treating them and other same-sex couples on equal footing with other married couples.

Gregory Bourke and Michael De Leon, who were married in Canada nine years ago, asked U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn on July 26 to require Kentucky to recognize valid unions from other states and countries.
