Deaf man gets his hearing back, first thing he hears is a proposal

Hayward Duresseau received the proposal of a lifetime when the first sound he heard was his partner proposing.

BuzzFeed reports that Duresseau, 27, and Kerry Kennedy, 37, were on a trip in San Francisco when Duresseau developed a headache and sensitivity to light. His symptoms worsened and he was rushed to the hospital where he learned he had contracted bacterial meningitis. He was hospitalized for weeks, lost his vision, was paralyzed from the waist down and permanently lost his hearing.

Australian prime minister rules out attending Sydney Gay Mardi Gras

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) – Australia’s prime minister said Thursday that he won’t attend this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras following a furor over his change of stance on same-sex marriage.

Malcolm Turnbull last year became Australia’s first serving prime minister to attend the annual street parade that is staged in his wealthy electoral division, angering the more conservative elements of his ruling party.

South that is. On January 24, co-owners to Southern Nights Orlando announced they would be opening a Southern Nights Fort Lauderdale.

Originally opening more than three decades ago as one of Central Florida’s favorite gar nightclubs, the location on Bumby Avenue has gone through many makeovers and name changes from Southern Nights to RBarr to the NEW Southern Nights then Revolution, eventually re-opening as RBarr, but didn’t sit too well with locals.

Adam Lambert to take Universal Studios Orlando stage during Mardi Gras

Adam Lambert is among the 14 acts announced by Universal Orlando Resort to perform during the theme park’s annual Mardi Gras celebration.

On select nights from Feb. 6 through April 16, Universal Studios will convert the theme park into the French Quarter complete with a Mardi Gras parade, performances and Cajun cuisine from the Big Easy.

Gasparilla Pirate Festival 2015

Estimates placed 700,000 people along the parade route for the 100th Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa on Jan. 31.

Among the revelers were many LGBTs and allies, including Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor and State Representative Kathy Castor.
