The Tampa International Fringe Festival (TIFF), Ybor’s annual 10-day performing arts festival, drew an estimated 2,500 patrons in its inaugural year. For its sophomore outing, running May 3-12, organizers are promising even more rapid-fire theater—spotlighting everything from magic shows to heavy metal musicals.

“It’s an uncensored, unjuried performing arts festival,” TIFF’s producer Trish Parry says. “When we select the shows each year we do so completely at random out of a hat. Half of the shows are from around Tampa Bay and then a quarter of the shows are from all over the country. The last quarter of the shows are international.”

The Fringe Jackpot!:
The Fringe lottery is complete, and although the wait list is long, a lot of your favorite local Orlando LGBT performers are set to have their own shows. Although most artists don’t announce the actual name of the show until after the new year, Watermark was able to get the inside scoop for some. Yow Dance will return with a dance revue, Logan Donahoo will be performing another one man show that he promises to be semi-educational and of course entertaining. We have Michael Wanzie, who will be revisiting his very first Fringe show, a drama about two soldiers stuck in a foxhole, one gay and one straight. There will be a show about Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche. Comedian, Disney fan and Movies Out Loud host Jeff Jones is writing a comedy, this time not set in hell, but a sit-com style show about four Disney animatronics living together as roommates called Animatronicans; the show will feature the Polar Bear (from the now closed Maelstrom), Abe Lincoln (the Hall of Presidents), the Dreamfinder (Journey to Imagination) and John (Carousel of Progress).

As World AIDS Day approaches, philanthropic organizations adjust to changing times and perceptions in the world of HIV

By : Billy Manes

A little over a year ago, Orlando resident Logan Donahoo, 33, was frightened into a new reality. After receiving the typical glossing over on issues of STDs and HIV/AIDS from primary care physicians throughout his adulthood, the awkward nudges toward using protection during sex that ring in distant absolutes as if to brush the subject away, he got a clearer view.

“I got my annual physical done, and for my first time, even though I’ve been tested for HIV over and over again throughout my life. I finally got tested for [sexually transmitted diseases] and I got tested for HIV,” he says. “I got a little STD scare when the health department called me and gave me the scary news. Even though I knew that was within the realm of possibility, and I knew about partner notification, finally getting that phone call and knowing what that feels like made it hit home. So, I was like, ‘OK, if I can never have this happen again, and I can know that it’s something non-life threatening, then I will.’

Finally, he opened up with his doctor.

ORLANDO | Watermark Media and the Orlando International Fringe Festival are teaming up to resurrect Movies Out Loud for a new audience (and the old one too). The first one will be July 8 and continue on the second Wednesday of each month, but instead of a roaming venue, they have found a permanent home at The Abbey.

“The Abbey has stepped up as sponsor and it really is the perfect location,” said George Wallace, executive director to Fringe, via email.

Donahoo plans to go elbow deep
Last year Watermark’s guide to everything Fringe was our “Oh My Gay” cover—featuring Logan Donahoo, who’s 2013 Field Guide to the Gays sold out nearly every single show. This year, Logan dives back into the lavender pool in Field Guide to the Gays 2! The original show touched on gay history, gay stigmas and even instructional ways to, well, receive. With a little bit of lube and a lot of laughter, Logan promises to delve deep into what he just touched on in the first show, but this time he plans to go in elbow deep.

Who better to guide us through the substantial gay-themed and gay-penned shows at the 2014 Fringe Fest than Logan Donahoo? The Orlando-based actor isn’t only a Fringe veteran, but the star and creator of the wildly successful Field Guide to the Gays, which returns for two shows this year.

“I’m also bringing Field Guide to the Logan to Fringe this year for five shows,” Donahoo says. “It’s more autobiographical. It’s like being on a date with someone who shares way too much about himself—and that date is me.”
