This morning’s announcement of the Pulse memorial was short on information, full of emotion

This morning, May 4, 2017, a pall fell over the inside of the tribute gates of the oft-visited Pulse Orlando nightclub, where thousands have paid their respects to the 49 killed on June 12, 2016. The event was announced nearly a week before, but the details of what was going on were amorphous at best. The Pulse site would become a permanent memorial, the original April 25 press release read, leaving out any finite details.

“Pulse has always been a part of me, but after this tragedy which took 49 lives, it became a part of this community and the world,’’ Poma explained in the press release. “When this event happened, I had no clue how expansive the love for Pulse was. It’s important that we as a community be mindful and take great care to preserve, honor and help heal.”

Orlando – In a year that has seen huge tragedy, immense recovery, a hurricane, an election that blew much harder than that hurricane, and all of the piecing of our rights back together, it’s been easy to lose sight of our victories, notably in the corporate world. The Out & Equal Summit, which took place on Oct. 4 at Disney’s Swan & Dolphin resorts, is part think tank, part party. Even Lance Bass was a keynote speaker.

At the event, the largest of its kind, nearly 5,000 corporate leaders from the world over stepped forward to find ways to protect workplace rights for the LGBTQ community. This year, the Orlando affiliate took home the prize for Affiliate of the Year. It was no sympathy award for a city in the spotlight, but an award more for the cooperation between several of our larger companies and their respective staffs.

Retirement, again!
More than two years ago, Suzanne Noe announced that she was stepping away from the operational side of ProSuzy.com, the lesbian mega-list of events she created more than a decade ago. Now, Noe is ready to enter into full retirement. On Friday, March 27, Noe will hold a second retirement party that will completely sever her ties with the incredibly popular women’s website. As with her first party, the celebration will be at the Gulfport Casino and will have a “White Party” theme. Noe tells us she’s looking forward to retiring and plans to leave the area. She hopes to move to The Villages later this year. We secretly hope she’ll start another website in the notably socially conservative community. Seriously, we wish her well and thank Noe for her amazing contributions to the women’s community of Tampa Bay.

All about Lance Bass
Liquid Tampa turns three years old in April, and it’s celebrating in a very big way. The popular Ybor bar on 7th Avenue and 15th Street announced it will host Lance Bass of N’sync fame the evening of Saturday, April 11. Limited meet and greet tickets are $30 and advance general admission tickets are only $10. Bass is expected to perform as well as serve as party emcee throughout the evening. We’re not sure if his husband, Michael Ruchin, will be in attendance, but maybe they can make a honeymoon out of it. The couple did, after all, recently tie the knot in front of cameras for a reality show. Why not make a sequel and set it in Ybor City?
