Madonna to be honored at GLAAD Media Awards

NEW YORK (AP) | Madonna will be honored at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards for a lifetime of accelerating acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer advocacy group announced Feb. 5 it will present Madonna with its advocate for change award. The 60-year-old singer is the second person and first woman to receive the award that honors a person who, through their work, changed the game for LGBTQ people.

Pence calls criticism of wife’s anti-LGBT school ‘deeply offensive’

Vice President Mike Pence, who’s notorious for his anti-LGBT record, responded Jan. 17 to criticism over his wife Second Lady Karen Pence teaching at a school that excludes LGBT teachers and students, calling criticism of the Christian institution “deeply offensive.”

Pence made the remarks during an interview with EWTN Global Catholic Network in response to reporter Lauren Ashburn’s inquiry over the criticism.

Study finds LGBTQ characters on network TV hit a record high

LOS ANGELES (AP) | A record-high percentage of LGBTQ characters are part of the new TV season’s prime-time network series, according to the media advocacy group GLAAD.

The annual study by media advocacy group GLAAD out Oct. 25 also found an increase in the characters’ ethnic diversity, with slightly more LGBTQ people of color than white for the first time.
