MBA’s Pride in Business Awards Gala moves to November

ORLANDO | The Annual Metropolitan Business Association’s Pride in Business Awards Gala, originally scheduled for Oct. 7, will be moved to Nov. 4 from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m., with a sponsor reception beginning at 7:00 p.m., at the Rosen Shingle Creek.

“There were some limitations for the original date that would have prohibited us from putting on the kind of show that the MBA attendees have become accustomed to,” Gala Committee Co-Chair Deb Ofsowitz says. “On top of that, when Irma came though, it hindered some of the vendors.”

Central Florida celebrates Watermark’s 2017 WAVE Awards at Parliament House

Watermark celebrated with the Central Florida winners of the 2017 WAVE Awards at the Parliament House in Orlando March 10.

Guests were greeted in Parliment House’s main bar with tunes being spun by DJ Lindsey Leigh, decorated with beautiful arrangements by Lee James Floral Design and a delicious spread courtesy of John Michael Exquisite Weddings and Catering. First place winners took home awards in elegant frames courtesy of Tyrone’s Frame and Mirror from St. Petersburg.

2017 WAVE Awards Spotlight: Jorge Estevez

Six months after Pulse

Six months after Pulse and as a community we continue to come together.

Recently, the Angel Wings, designed to block a religious hate group protesting a funeral for some of the Pulse victims, were donated to the Center. The wings will be displayed at the Center when the new location opens early next year. According to Terry Decarlo, they will also be used for future events.

As Central Florida prepares to celebrate Come Out With Pride, LGBTs of Hispanic descent are also amidst Hispanic Heritage Month, two cultures that don’t always easily mix.

Officially, Hispanic Pride month ends Oct. 15 and is dedicated to recognizing the contributions and achievements of the Hispanic community, its culture and its language.

Is Ginger Minj MIA for RDR?
Something suspicious is happening on Facebook these days, and it could mean big news for fans of Orlando drag performer Ginger Minj. Website Dragaholic.com recently posted speculation on contestants for Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The website sites sudden social media disappearances of drag performers around the nation as reason to believe they are filming the popular LOGO series in California. Ginger Minj is among the social media absentees! Ginger posted last month that she was to be quarantined for MRSA and in doing so she will have limited access to the internet. This sent the rumor mill sashaying, since Ginger was recently campaigning to be one of the fabulous ladies for Season 7. As an accomplished performer, Ginger/Josh has performed in theatrical productions and appeared in television across the nation as well as been nationally recognized in various female impersonator pageants. Watermark couldn’t get in touch with Ginger, but her husband, William, confirmed the MRSA quarantine.

No Queens for King’s!
The HRC Disco Bowl IV split from calling King’s Bowling it’s home. The I-Drive bowling ally was an unwelcoming place, according to the HRC, when an employee of the establishment told organizers exactly that. Management has since apologized for the employee’s comments and tried to rectify the situation, but by then, the Disco Bowl had already been rescheduled at Colonial Lanes. It’s unclear if the change of venue will remain in 2015.
