WFTV’s Jorge Estevez tackles LGBTQ issues in new podcast ‘Under The Rainbow’

Podcasts are fast becoming a primary medium for people to get their news. A CBS News poll conducted earlier this year found that nearly two-thirds of Americans listen to podcasts at least occasionally, with nearly a quarter of the people polled saying they listen several times a week.

With numbers like those, Central Florida’s WFTV Channel 9 knew they needed to get into the podcast business.

Hosted by WFTV’s Jorge Estevez and comedian Erin Foley, the star-studded fundraiser kicked off with some hilarious stand-up from co-host Foley and went nonstop with amazing talent.

The LGBT+ Center to honor community leaders at Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center of Orlando (The Center) will honor local LGBTQ leaders and businesses during the 2019 Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast at Dubsdread in Orlando May 22.

The seventh annual event—named for the first openly gay elected official in California and LGBTQ icon Harvey Milk—will be hosted by the Orlando Sentinel’s Scott Maxwell, and will take place on what would have been the slain civil rights leader’s 89th birthday. The day is designated as “Harvey Milk Day” in the U.S.

OYA and Parliament House’s Easter tradition continues with Babes in Bonnets

ORLANDO | The Parliament House will once again host the Easter holiday auction Babes in Bonnets, which fund raises for the Orlando Youth Alliance (OYA).

Each fundraiser over the past several years has continued to surpass the one before it, with last year’s auction bringing in a record $32,171. The fundraiser itself has been around for 21 years and was started by the legendary drag queen Carmella Marcella Garcia.

As the parade makes its way through downtown it will air live from 10 a.m. to noon on WFTV, as well as be streamed live on WFTV Now. Emmy and WAVE Award-winning news anchor Jorge Estevez will give viewers the parade play-by-play alongside his co-host Miss Florida USA 2010 Megan Clementi.

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center of Central Florida celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert at The Plaza Live on Nov. 3.

The Studio 54-themed event was hosted by Jorge Estevez and featured showstopping musical and dance numbers by the Orlando Gay Chorus, a sensual burlesque dance from VarieTEASE’s Blue Star, Tymisha Harris and the Ladyboys’ Gadiel Vazquez, hysterical drag by Gidget Galore and a once-in-a-lifetime special performance from one of the queens of disco, Martha Wash.

The previous record was set last year when Babes in Bonnets brought in $28,000 for OYA.

WFTV’s Jorge Estevez returned to the “Dance, Dream, Inspire” fundraiser at the Walt Disney World Resort for their “All-Star” edition.

He was once again on top of the leader board, scoring three 10’s from the judges. Estevez took first place along with his dancing partner, Brooke Reyes of Arthur Murray’s in Boca Raton. John Dowless placed second and WFTV’s Nancy Alvarez placed third.
