Rep. Kennedy says he’s pushing to protect transgender rights

BOSTON (AP) | Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy said he’s trying to guard against any effort by the Trump administration to exclude transgender individuals from federal civil rights protections.

Kennedy on Nov. 2 said he led 97 of his colleagues in sending a letter to Secretary Alex Azar demanding he reject any consideration of any Department of Health and Human Services policy to redefine “sex” to exclude the transgender community.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The latest member of the Kennedy clan in Congress is urging the NCAA to continue steering championship sporting events away from North Carolina over the refusal of politicians to allow local laws that protect LGBTQ residents from discrimination.

U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III of Massachusetts said April 3 he’s speaking up because he says last week’s law repealing House Bill 2 still violates civil rights for transgender people.

Transgender Task Force relaunched amid ongoing anti-trans attacks

Amid the Trump administration’s rollback of guidance protecting transgender students and increasing reports of anti-trans violence around the country, members of the U.S. House have relaunched the Transgender Task Force to draw attention to harms facing the transgender community.

The new leader of the transgender caucus in the 115th Congress is Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D-Mass.), who spoke at an event Thursday outside the U.S. Capitol to support trans people.
