Mormon support for gay marriage gradually grows

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new survey shows Mormons are gradually becoming more accepting of same-sex marriage, fueled by the views of younger church members.

But the survey released this week by the Public Religion Research Institute reveals that Mormons in the United States still lag behind national support for same-sex marriage and behind Catholics, Muslims and Jews.

State report: California hate crimes up by double digits

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – The number of hate crimes in California increased about 11 percent last year, the second consecutive double-digit increase, but the overall number still was a third lower total than a decade ago, the state’s attorney general reported July 3.

Blacks, Jews and gay men were among the most frequent targets.
