Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of the film “Rub & Tug” following backlash for accepting a transgender role as a cis-gender woman.

Johansson had been cast as Dante “Tex” Gill, a transgender man who operated a string of massage parlors that were fronts for brothels in Pittsburgh.

Scarlett Johansson is facing backlash for choosing to play a transgender man in the upcoming crime drama “Rub & Tug.”

“Rub & Tug” is based on the life of Dante “Tex” Gill, a transgender man who operated a string of massage parlors that doubled as brothels in Pittsburgh.

68th Annual Emmy Nominations announced, 10 nominations for “Transparent”

The 68th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced the morning of July 14, with Amazon Prime’s show Transparent collecting 10, including “Outstanding Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.”

Transparent focuses on Maura Pfefferman’s (played by Jeffery Tambor) journey as an older transgender woman and her relationship with her family and with herself. The series won five Emmy Awards in 2015 out of the 11 it was nominated for.
