Jeff Jones will tell you that he isn’t a gay comedian; he’s a comedian who happens to be gay. He’s also an actor, producer and playwright, one who frequents Orlando and Tampa and that’s even shared the stage with late comedic icon Joan Rivers.

On Nov. 8, Tampa Bay residents will get to experience Jones for themselves as drag and comedy collide for his “Pink Collar Comedy Show,” a night of laughter and drag divas with Brian Bradley, Carol Lee and Trixxie Deluxxe.

The death of Matthew Sheppard on October 12, 1998, shook me to my core. It was a devastating, brutal reminder of the misguided hatred some had, and still have, for the LGBTQ community. It was also a reminder to me of how lucky I was to have survived college relatively unscathed.

I identified with Matthew a great deal. We were close in age, just under two years apart; we both went to small, remote colleges; and neither of us was quiet about being gay.

In the last few years Savoy has undergone renovations and upgrades to its interior, and while the main bar has maintained its success with cool drinks and hot dancers, the other half has struggled to find its identity. Enter Orlando’s theater god Michael Wanzie.

Poor Rich White Lady: Drunk for Trump

By : Poor Rich White Lady

poor rich white lady

We couldn’t use the image of the original Poor Rich White Lady because we don’t want to get sued. Here’s one of her beverages of choice, instead.

Listen, I am here to save you. We need to take back our country and make it great again. I don’t know who has taken it, or where they have taken it to, but it’s been taken somewhere by someone. When something is taken, we need someone to bring it back. Justin Timberlake brought sexy back, and I am convinced that Donald J. Trump can bring our country back. Come in closer and smelly my liquor whispers.

Why Trump? Donald Trump knows how hard it has been for us over the last eight years living under a Kenyan-born Muslim president. He knows how it is to make the hard decisions every day. What Ivy League schools should I send my children to? What car should I have the driver use today to take me to the spa? Who broke my blender? Life is tough.

The Fringe Jackpot!:
The Fringe lottery is complete, and although the wait list is long, a lot of your favorite local Orlando LGBT performers are set to have their own shows. Although most artists don’t announce the actual name of the show until after the new year, Watermark was able to get the inside scoop for some. Yow Dance will return with a dance revue, Logan Donahoo will be performing another one man show that he promises to be semi-educational and of course entertaining. We have Michael Wanzie, who will be revisiting his very first Fringe show, a drama about two soldiers stuck in a foxhole, one gay and one straight. There will be a show about Five Lesbians Eating a Quiche. Comedian, Disney fan and Movies Out Loud host Jeff Jones is writing a comedy, this time not set in hell, but a sit-com style show about four Disney animatronics living together as roommates called Animatronicans; the show will feature the Polar Bear (from the now closed Maelstrom), Abe Lincoln (the Hall of Presidents), the Dreamfinder (Journey to Imagination) and John (Carousel of Progress).

ORLANDO | Watermark Media and the Orlando International Fringe Festival are teaming up to resurrect Movies Out Loud for a new audience (and the old one too). The first one will be July 8 and continue on the second Wednesday of each month, but instead of a roaming venue, they have found a permanent home at The Abbey.

“The Abbey has stepped up as sponsor and it really is the perfect location,” said George Wallace, executive director to Fringe, via email.

The Rainbow River Cruise came back to St. John’s River for the first time in over ten years on June 22.

Around 100 people were on board the Barbara Lee (not to be confused with Carol Lee) as it went down the St. John’s River to Lake Monroe in Sanford. The trip was a trial run for what used to be a regular occurrence over ten years ago, and will hopefully come back in the future.
