The Center announces its 2019 Board of Directors

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando announced its 2019 Board of Directors via Facebook on March 12.

Roxy Santiago, who has been a member of The Center’s Board of Directors for two years, was named board president. Santiago is also a member of the Human Rights Campaign in Orlando.

The LGBT+ Center Orlando to open second location in Kissimmee

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando, Inc.’s board of directors announced April 6 that they will be expanding into Osceola County with an LGBT+ Center in Kissimmee.

The new expansion is a result of a donation from the Contigo Fund, an initiative of Our Fund Foundation that emerged from the Pulse massacre. Program Director Marco Antonio Quiroga said, in a press release, that the Contigo Fund recognizes the road to recovery for the survivors continues, and will continue for years to come.

Orlando’s LGBTQ Center changes name, debuts new logo

ORLANDO | In honor of a milestone year, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Central Florida, Inc. is changing its name to The LGBT+ Center Orlando, Inc.

The Board of Directors approved the decision to legally change the name and logo on Jan. 13 at the organization’s annual board retreat. Board members supported the name change as a way to update the organization and The Center’s imprint on the community.

Former head of Orlando Fringe named new executive director to The Center

ORLANDO | Former executive director to the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, George Wallace was named the new executive director to the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida by the board of directors Dec. 1, according to a press release from The Center.

“When I saw the Executive Director position become available at The Center, I immediately jumped at the chance,” Wallace said in the press release. “This is a wonderful opportunity, not only to return to my home and the city I love, but to work for such an established and crucial agency.”

The GLBT Center of Central Florida celebrates its new renovation with ribbon cutting, open house

ORLANDO | The GLBT Center of Central Florida reopened their doors after a nearly three year renovation with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house Aug. 31.

The event was well attended by local and state officials, members of the community and media as Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Commissioner Patty Sheehan and Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy spoke to the crowd and then cut the ribbon officially opening The Center.
