Gay former U.S. ambassador drops congressional bid

A gay foreign policy expert who worked on international LGBT rights and served as U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Security & Cooperation in Europe has dropped his short-lived bid for a congressional seat in Colorado.

Daniel Baer, who had sought the Democratic nomination to run in Colorado’s 7th congressional district, announced in a statement Thursday he’d suspend his campaign in the aftermath of incumbent Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) deciding to run for re-election.

Polis could make history with Colorado gubernatorial bid

If Jared Polis wins the race for governor of Colorado, he would become the first openly gay person to win a gubernatorial race in the United States — but breaking through the pink ceiling isn’t a distinction that’s a priority for his campaign.

During an interview with the Washington Blade last week, the five-term member of the U.S. House identified renewable energy and education as marquee issues for his candidacy, downplaying the significance of achieving a potential first.

Jared Polis announces bid to become Colorado governor

The most senior out member of the U.S. House declared on Sunday his bid to become the next governor of Colorado, setting himself to become the first openly gay person elected governor in the United States.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.), who’s served in Congress since the start of the Obama administration in 2009, said in email blast to supporters on he’d formally declare his bid Monday to become governor and to succeed retiring Gov. John Hickenlooper.

LGBT Equality Caucus doubles its membership

The congressional caucus dedicated to LGBT issues has nearly doubled its membership, rebounding after experiencing attrition in recent years as a result of shifting to dues-based membership.

The LGBT Equality Caucus announced on Tuesday it has started the 115th Congress with 102 members, which is nearly double the roster of 53 members at the start of the last Congress.

Congressman, partner celebrate new addition to family

DENVER (AP) – U.S. Rep. Jared Polis has announced the birth of a new daughter named Cora.

While few details of the birth were made available, the Democratic congressman from Boulder said in a statement July 4 “I think I’m going to miss the fireworks for the first time in my life, but my first daughter is far more thrilling.”
