Janet Mock lands historic multi-year Netflix deal

Author and activist Janet Mock has scored a three-year deal with Netflix making her the first transgender woman to have creative control at a major content company.

Netflix will have exclusive rights to Mock’s upcoming TV series and any feature film projects. Mock, who serves as director and writer on Ryan Murphy’s “Pose,” will also join Murphy’s “Hollywood” series as executive producer and writer. “Hollywood” is Murphy’s first project under his own major deal with Netflix.

Much of the power of FX’s landmark series “Pose” comes from its factual basis. Although fictional, much of what is seen happened in 1980s New York in black and Latinx gay culture.

Making its debut during PaleyFest, Executive Producer Ryan Murphy moderated a panel, acknowledging the blend between fiction and reality.

Trans filmmaker claims Marsha P. Johnson doc director stole her work

Transgender filmmaker and researcher Reina Gossett has accused “The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson” director David France of stealing her idea for the documentary.

The film, which is streaming on Netflix, examines Johnson’s involvement in the Stonewall riots, her transgender activism, and mysterious death. Gossett, who is an activist-in-residence at the Barnard College Center for Research on Women’s Social Justice Institute, worked on the short film “Happy Birthday, Marsha!” with Sasha Wortzel.

Comedian Lil Duval defends transphobic remarks, refuses to apologize

Handler asked Mock if she felt the need to defend Jenner for her controversial joke that “liberals can’t shoot straight” in reference to James Hodgkinson shooting at a GOP baseball practice that left Rep. Steve Scalise hospitalized in critical condition.
