Italy church defends ordaining seminarian in gay sex probe

VATICAN CITY (AP) – An Italian diocese is defending its decision to ordain a seminarian accused in a book and an investigative TV report of having engaged in gay sex with a fellow teenager while both studied at the Vatican’s youth seminary.

A statement from the diocese of Como Nov. 14 said church superiors had investigated claims against the seminarian and determined that he was worthy of being ordained a priest. It said church authorities in Rome had given him a “positive” evaluation.

New book alleges gay sex in Vatican dorm, shady banking

ROME (AP) – The Italian journalist who was put on trial by the Vatican for publishing confidential documents has written a new book alleging a host of Catholic sins, including gay sex in the Vatican’s youth seminary.

Gianluigi Nuzzi’s “Original Sin” went on sale Thursday. At a news conference, Nuzzi said his lawyers had hand-delivered a copy to the Vatican’s criminal prosecutor, saying at least one of the seminarians was a minor at the time of the alleged escapades.

Dolce & Gabbana release handbags, t-shirts celebrating same-sex families

After making derogatory comments about children of same-sex couples, Dolce & Gabbana have done a 180 and released handbags and t-shirts celebrating same-sex couples and families.

The designing duo released three photos on their Instagram account Jan. 29. The photos depict simple drawings of a same-sex couple, one featuring men and the other women, with several multi-racial children on a handbag. A third picture features similar artwork on t-shirts. The posts are accompanied with #dgfamily.

Rome mayor registers 16 same sex marriages

Rome (AP) – The gay marriage debate arrived within walking distance of the Vatican on Saturday as Rome’s mayor defied Italy’s government and registered 16 gay marriages celebrated abroad.

Gay marriage is illegal in Italy. Interior Minister Angelino Alfano recently sent a notice to local prefects saying any registrations of foreign gay marriages would be voided, and Rome’s prefect vowed to do so immediately.

Barilla pasta chair tells gays to eat another brand

Gay rights advocates are calling for a boycott of Barilla, the world’s leading pasta maker, after its chairman said he would never feature a gay couple in his advertisements.

Guido Barilla, whose company has almost half the Italian pasta market with almost a quarter of that in the U.S., said on an Italian radio broadcast Sept. 25: “I would never do an advert with a homosexual family…if the gays don’t like it they can go an eat another brand.”
