NEW YORK (AP) – The first on-air promo for the broadcast interview with Bruce Jenner didn’t even show his face, an illustration of the line ABC News is walking in trying to drum up interest for the program while saying virtually nothing about it.

The two-hour interview special with the 1976 Olympic decathlon champion and estranged patriarch of television’s Kardashian clan is expected to touch on transgenderism and reports that he may be transitioning to a woman.

SteveBlanchardHeadshot_137x185For the first time in, well, ever, I actually care about Bruce Jenner. Reality shows have never interested me and while I enjoy sports—especially the Olympics—I’m not fanatical about them.

I couldn’t tell you who won what in last year’s Sochi Winter Olympics, much less the Summer Olympics of 2012. And if it wasn’t for Google, I wouldn’t know to write this sentence explaining that Jenner won a 1976 Gold Medal in the decathlon.

Former NFL star Deion Sanders isn’t convinced that people are biologically gay. He’s not convinced that they choose to be gay either.

But that didn’t stop the hall of famer from discussing the topic of homosexuality and University of Missouri recruit Michael Sam during a recent interview with Larry King.

Over the past 10 years, Shawn Thomas has received critical acclaim and recognition for his music and his service to the community. He’s made a name for himself in the Contemporary Christian music world by not only being an out singer and songwriter, but for sharing his story of coming to terms with his sexuality and his faith.

PeggyGreenHeadshotIn November 2013, St. Petersburg residents elected Darden Rice to the City Council. It was Rice’s third campaign. The landscape had changed since her first run in 2005, when she was the first openly gay candidate to seek office in St. Pete.

Eight years later, St. Petersburg has three gay council members, had taken huge steps toward LGBT equality, and saw its annual Pride celebration swell to record-breaking numbers.

Tennis legend Billie Jean King talks about psyching up, coming out and her upcoming Orlando event with Elton John

On Sunday, Nov. 17, two bona fide legends will converge on Orlando for the first time since 1997. Billie Jean King and Sir Elton John are co-hosts of Mylan World Team Tennis Smash Hits, an all-star charity featuring tennis stars Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Marion Bartoli, John Isner and more. The event, at beautiful HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World, benefits the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Hope and Help Center of Central Florida. Smash Hits fundraisers have raised more than $11.5 million for HIV/AIDS charities around the nation.

I spoke with King prior to the 1997 Smash Hits event and found her warm, witty and accessible. We spoke again by telephone earlier this month and picked up right where we left off 16 years ago. As you’ll see below, it was much more a conversation than an interview; I left out all the parts where she asked about my family, the newspaper, my life. It was easy to forget that she is an icon, named one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century by Life Magazine.

Janelle Monáe on her gay inspiration, gender-bending and lesbian rumors

By : Chris Azzopardi

The ambiguity of Janelle Monáe can be summed up in her own two words: “top secret.”

That, and, “I’m sorry, I can’t tell you,” is all she says about her pompadour when asked how it stays in a perfect pouf. It’s the kind of James Bond elusiveness that’s left a lot to the imagination since the Kansas City native spawned her fembot alter ego.

Watermark interviews former Exodus figurehead Alan Chambers

By : Susan Clary

Alan Chambers has spent the last dozen years trying to “cure” homosexuality in the name of Jesus Christ as the executive director of Exodus International. It was his own personal story of setting aside gay feelings to marry a woman in the name of religion that inspired his desire to empower others to do the same.

Last month, the Winter Park native went on national television to offer an apology for those efforts and for hurting followers in the process. He said he was shutting down the world’s largest “ex-gay” organization, which has spent nearly 40 years providing “reparative” therapy to thousands of Christian gays seeking to live a “righteous” life as a heterosexual. Responses have ranged from bewildered to elated.

In these days of instant internet celebrity, overnight sensations are a dime a dozen. But Chicago-based gay singer/songwriter Steve Grand seems to be an exception with his song “All-American Boy” and its accompanying video.

Sure, he’s breathtaking to look at and that doesn’t hurt. He’s even put in time as a model. More than just a pretty face and amazing body, Grand is a musician with a message. Striking a chord across boundaries, Grand’s song and video of unrequited love, set to an unlikely country music beat, has found a devoted audience and earned nearly two million views on YouTube.
