House resolution condemns Ben Carson as transphobic

A new resolution introduced by a pair of House Democrats — Reps. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.) and Katie Hill (D-Calif.) — denounces Secretary of Housing & Urban Development Ben Carson as transphobic and decries his policies as anti-LGBT.

Quigley and Hill introduced the resolution Tuesday in the aftermath of a Washington Post report last month Carson at a San Francisco shelter made comments about “big, hairy men” seeking to enter women’s homeless shelters. Those who were heard the remarks reportedly thought they were transphobic.

House Dems demand answers on LGBT removal from SBA website

WASHINGTON | Two House Democrats are demanding answers from the U.S. Small Business Administration over the continued omission of LGBT material from the agency’s website more than a year after the pages were removed.

In a letter dated May 9, Reps. Nydia Velazquez and Yvette Clarke — lawmakers from New York who serve on the House Committee for Small Business — requested information from Administrator Linda McMahon on the “disconcerting change” of the LGBT omission at the start of the Trump administration.

House Dems: Trump’s trans military ban ‘unconstitutional on its face’

A group of 53 House Democrats led by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) is warning the Pentagon that following through with policy to implement President Trump’s transgender military ban would be “unconstitutional on its face.”

In a letter dated Aug. 4, Democrats on the House Armed Services and Judiciary Committees say prohibiting transgender people in the U.S. armed forces — “in any capacity” as Trump declared — won’t hold up under scrutiny before the courts.
