Janelle Monáe will replace Julia Roberts in season two of Amazon’s psychological thriller series “Homecoming.”

According to Deadline, Monáe will portray a woman who wakes up in a canoe with no memory of who she is or how she got there.

High school students Alexander Duarte and Erick Pineda have gone viral for a sweet homecoming proposal in honor of National Coming Out Day.

On Oct. 11, Duarte, a high school senior at Valley High School in Santa Ana, Calif., asked his straight friend Pineda, who is captain of the football team, to be his homecoming date.

Transgender student in Michigan voted homecoming prince

GRAND BLANC, Mich. (AP) – A transgender student in Grand Blanc has been chosen as homecoming prince.

Grand Blanc High School sophomore Kourt Frame told MLive that he decided to campaign for homecoming prince to empower people to be who they are and raise awareness about acceptance.

Maryland high school promotes gender-neutral homecoming court

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) – Students at a Maryland high school will get to choose whether they want to be considered as a king or queen, regardless of their gender, as part of a gender-neutral homecoming court.

The Washington Post reports Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School student government representatives voted last week that the top two finalists from a ballot will be crowned at the school’s football game Oct. 7. Those honored could include two boys, two girls, transgender students or a boy-girl duo.

Our annual fundraising gala to benefit LGBT Programing at Metro, including our LGBTQ Youth, SAGE Metro Tampa Bay Elder Programming and various Trans Programs offered in both St. Pete and Tampa on a weekly/ and or Biweekly basis. The funds raised through our gala allow us to continue to expand, adapt and add to our existing programming based on the needs and desires of the community here in Tampa Bay.

“Homecoming Gala”, a nod of celebration of purchasing our St. Pete building location! Think classic 1950’s homecoming dance, poodle skirts, letter jackets, the movie “Grease” as inspiration. The homecoming dance you wished you had! Sure to be a fantastic and fun night! The event kicks off with a special Sponsor’s Reception at 5:30pm for our event sponsors, followed by our gala at 7pm, Music, dancing, delicious food, beverage, entertainment, silent auction, raffle a night jam packed with good times for a great cause!

We have seen a dramatic increase in program participation over the past 4 years and look forward to what the future holds in store as we continue our work with the support of the community!

Transgender homecoming king takes his own life

Blake Brockington, a transgender activist, died of an apparent suicide on March 23 in Charlotte where he was a freshman at the University of North Carolina.

Brockington received public attention last year when he became the first openly transgender homecoming king in the nation at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte.

Same-sex couple shares ceremonial first kiss

SAN DIEGO – A same-sex couple was chosen for the first time to share the ceremonial first kiss for the homecoming of the USS San Francisco submarine warship.

Thomas Sawicki and his boyfriend Shawn Brier were the lucky couple who shared the first smooch off the submarine when it returned to port at Naval Base Point Loma on Feb. 9. Sawicki was back from a seven-month deployment in the Western Pacific.
