Octavia Spencer to be honored by GLSEN with Inspiration Award

LOS ANGELES (AP) | Octavia Spencer will be honored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network with its Inspiration Award at a gala later this year.

The group known as GLSEN announced Aug. 13 that the Oscar-winning star of “Hidden Figures,” “The Shape of Water” and “The Help” will receive the honor at the group’s Respect Awards, presented in October in Beverly Hills, California.

According to Deadline, Monáe will portray a woman who wakes up in a canoe with no memory of who she is or how she got there.

For the past two weeks I’ve been watching people rip into each other on social media about all sorts of issues: The election and President Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks: the battle for St. Pete Pride and where the parade will be held; and, of course, friends’ relationship drama. Ellen boots Kim Burrell from her show after homophobic sermon

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Ellen DeGeneres says that Kim Burrell isn’t going to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show as scheduled.

DeGeneres’ statement Jan. 3 on Twitter came several days after Burrell refused to apologize for a sermon in which she referred to gays and lesbians as perverted.

Gospel singer Kim Burrell makes anti-gay comments days before a scheduled appearance on “Ellen”

NEW YORK (AP) – Gospel singer Kim Burrell says she makes “no excuses or apologies” for a sermon at a Houston church where she referred to gays and lesbians as perverted.

A tape of Burrell preaching at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church began circulating online. She said that “the perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women.” She referred to specific homosexual acts as perverted.
