UPDATE:

As of April 21, Sen. Artiles has resigned over the issue of his insensitivity.

“My actions and my presence in government is now a distraction to my colleagues, the legislative process, and the citizens of our great State,” Artiles wrote, according to the Miami Herald. “I am responsible and I am accountable and effective immediately, I am resigning from the Florida State Senate.”

“It’s clear there are consequences to every action, and in this area, I will need time for personal reflection and growth.”

Gay Couple: Hateful note left on door after Trump’s election

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) – A gay couple in West Virginia says someone left a note with an anti-gay slur outside their home after Donald Trump’s election.

Clarksburg residents Kyle Chester and Corey Hurley tell the Charleston Gazette-Mail that they discovered the note after receiving a knock on their door early Nov.10.

South Africa bars American pastor over hate speech

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — An American pastor who has made anti-gay comments has been barred from entering South Africa, the government said Sept. 13.

Steven Anderson and members of the Faithful Word Baptist Church of Tempe, Arizona will not be allowed to travel to South Africa because they allegedly promote hate speech and “social violence,” said Malusi Gigaba, the home affairs minister.

Westboro Baptist Church to protest in Orlando

Despite initial reports from Orlando Police that the hate group has no plans to visit, it appears Westboro Baptist Church is, indeed, Orlando bound.

Rebekah Phelps-Davis, daughter of deceased Westboro leader Fred Phelps, sent a letter to Orlando Police Chief John Mina confirming that the group – infamous for picketing funerals with signs that read “God Hates Fags” – plans to protest at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke 10:15 – 11 a.m. June 18.

Ole Miss students, football players disrupt “Laramie Project” with anti-gay speech

Jackson, Miss. (AP) – A University of Mississippi professor says that a group of Ole Miss students, including football players, disrupted a production of a campus play with “hate speech” on Oct. 1.

Michael Barnett, the assistant theatre chair, said that several students in the play told him that audience members were disruptive and used “derogatory terms” for homosexuals during a production of “The Laramie Project” on campus.
