Jazz Jennings has been accepted to Harvard University and will attend the Ivy League in the fall.

The 18-year-old “I Am Jazz” star and transgender activist posted a photo of herself wearing a Harvard University sweatshirt captioned with the hashtag “#Harvard2020.”

A former Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Virginia is saying presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg will turn the U.S. into a “homocracy” if elected.

E.W. Jackson made the “homocracy” comment on his radio show “The Awakening” on April 16.

House Democrats promise action on LGBTQ rights bill

WASHINGTON (AP) | House Democrats are promising to prioritize anti-discrimination legislation that would for the first time establish widespread equal rights protections for LGBTQ individuals.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi recently said she would introduce the Equality Act as one of her first orders of business if Democrats retake the House in November. Pelosi made the announcement at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, telling the crowd the issue of equal rights for the LGBTQ community is “personal.”

Homophobic Bishop protests Notre Dame decision to honor Vice President Joe Biden

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The University of Notre Dame should not award Vice President Joe Biden its top award because it sends a message that a politician can support abortion rights and gay marriage and still be a good Catholic, the bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese said.

Notre Dame announced March 5 it would award the Laetare Medal to Biden and former Speaker of the House John Boehner for their leadership, civility and dedication to the nation. The Rev. John Jenkins, the Catholic university’s president, said at the time that the university was not endorsing the public positions of either man.

UT president says school is comitted to inclusiveness, despite removing references to gender-neutral pronouns after outcry

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The president of the University of Tennessee told state lawmakers on Oct. 14 that it’s committed to inclusion and diversity even though references to the use of gender-neutral pronouns were removed from a school website.

UT President Joe DiPietro spoke at a hearing before the state Senate Higher Education Subcommittee following outcry from the posting made in August by the University of Tennessee Office for Diversity and Inclusion.

Harvard joins other colleges by embracing gender-neutral pronouns

BOSTON (AP) — Welcome to Harvard. Feel free to pick a pronoun on this form: — He. — She. — Ze. — E. — They.

During the registration process at Harvard University, students are now allowed to indicate which pronouns they use, with suggested gender-neutral options like “ze” or “they.” Harvard isn’t the first college to embrace gender-neutral pronouns, but it’s among a wave of major institutions that are widening their policies and pronouns to acknowledge transgender students, as well as “genderqueer” students, who don’t identify as male or female.
