Alex Landi’s character on “Grey’s Anatomy” is the first gay male surgeon to appear on the medical drama.

Dr. Nico Kim and intern Dr. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) have been enjoying a fling with each other in the middle of saving patients’ lives. Their relationship is the first of its kind on the series. In an interview with Attitude magazine, Landi says that he just wants to do his best when portraying roles regardless of his sexuality or his character’s.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Jake Borelli comes out as gay

“Grey’s Anatomy” actor Jake Borelli’s character was part of a historical moment on the Nov. 1 episode of the medical drama when two male doctors began a romance for the first time in the show’s history.

In the episode, “Flowers Grow Out of My Grave,” Levi Schmitt (Borelli) and Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi), the first gay male surgeon the series, gave into their sexual tension and shared a kiss on the elevator. Levi admits it’s the first time he’s kissed another man.

Alex Landi has been cast as the first gay male surgeon in “Grey’s Anatomy.”

TVLine reports Landi, who is half-Korean and half-Italian, will portray Dr. Nico Kim. The role will be reoccurring but no details on Nico’s plot have been revealed.

LOS ANGELES (AP)| Yara Shahidi will be honored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network for her advocacy for girls’ education at a gala later this year.

The group known as GLSEN announced Wednesday that the “grown-ish” star will receive its Game Changer Award at its Respect Awards, presented in October in Beverly Hills, California. Shahidi has advocated for gender parity in science, technology and engineering fields.

Transgender actress Candis Cayne has been cast for a multi-episode arc on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cayne, who has appeared in “Transparent” and “Dirty Sexy Money,” will play a transgender patient at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital who will undergo “groundbreaking” vaginoplasty surgery.
