Alabama bill protects adoption agencies that turn away LGBTQ couples

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)- Alabama might protect faith-based adoption organizations that refuse to place children with LGBTQ parents, or in other households, because of their religious beliefs.

The Alabama Senate approved legislation April 18 that prohibits the state from refusing to license faith-based adoption groups that refuse placements on religious grounds. Proponents said the bill is needed so the faith-based agencies can make placements without violating their faith. Critics derided it as blatant discrimination.

Nickelodeon cartoon ‘The Loud House’ to feature interracial gay parents

The Loud House, a cartoon that centers on an 11-year-old boy named Lincoln and his 10 sisters, started airing on the children’s network this past May and has become a big hit already for the cable channel.

Ocala – Weeks after he made a disparaging statement about same-sex parents in Florida, Rep. Dennis Baxley (R-Ocala) met with Equality Florida’s Nadine Smith and issued a public apology – that wasn’t really an apology – for his remarks.

The comments were made on Oct. 8 when Baxley addressed a meeting of the House K-12 subcommittee. Baxley was describing a conversation he had with a teacher about the challenges of the classroom.

Russian bill would block gay parents from custody of their children

A Russian lawmaker has proposed a bill that would deny gay parents custody over their children.

The draft bill, published on parliament’s website Sept. 5, would make the “fact of nontraditional sexual orientation” a basis for denying custody. Other grounds include alcoholism, drug use, and abuse.

France’s former first lady Carla Bruni says she disagrees with her conservative husband Nicolas Sarkozy and supports a plan to allow gay marriage and adoption.

In an interview with the French edition of Vogue for its December issue, the 44-year-old former supermodel and singer said: “I’m rather in favor because I have a lot of friends – men and women – who are in this situation and I see nothing unstable or perverse in families with gay parents.”
