Orlando artist Nick Smith turns literary classics into original works of art

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away known as Orlando, an artist by the name of Nick Smith was rediscovering his love of art and began creating original pieces based on classic novels and popular stories.

“I’ve been drawing since I was a wee little lad,” Smith says. “I actually started tracing, that’s one of the things I always tell people, learn how to trace when you’re young so you get an idea of shapes and figures.”

‘Game of Thrones’ tops Nielsen’s LGBTQ ratings report

Nielsen announced in October it had partnered with GLAAD to isolate same-sex couple households to determine viewership data. For the first time, weekly data for LGBTQ viewership has been released and “Game of Thrones” is a clear favorite.

For the week of April 8, the “Game of Thrones” premiere on HBO was the top cable show among same-sex households (191,135). It was followed by “The Rachel Maddow Show” (66,071) on MSNBC and “Untucked,” (65,782) “RuPaul’s Drag Race” after-show, on VH1 came in third.

Marlon James shares truths though the fantasy of new novel

NEW YORK (AP) | Marlon James is in search of a definition.

“Myths are so suffused with monsters. It makes me think of the Latin root of monsters, `monstrum. What does `monstrum’ mean?” the novelist asks, seated at a Brooklyn coffee house, briefly forgetting the meaning before looking it up in a novel he’s been reading. “Ah! `Monstrum is a divine messenger of catastrophe.’ A monster is a harbinger.”

Ruby Rose’s ‘Batwoman’ series gets pilot, to be helmed by ‘Game of Thrones’ director

After making a big splash in The CW’s DC-crossover event “Elseworlds” last month, out superhero Batwoman could be getting her own series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the network has ordered a pilot for “Batwoman,” starring Ruby Rose. Rose portrayed the title superhero in last month’s “Elseworlds.” The pilot will be directed by Emmy Award-winning director David Nutter. Nutter is best known for directing several episodes of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones,” including the infamous Red Wedding episode.

Kit Harington wants Marvel to have a gay male lead

Parliament House was the place to be this Halloween

Our previous issue said it best, Halloween is like our Gay Christmas! The crowds at the Parliament House Resort packed the courtyard with some of the most epic costumes this side of Halloweentown on Saturday, Oct. 28. Surely, the huge cash prizes has nothing to do with it, right?

The ghouls and goblins alike lined up for the big prized money, despite the wet weather. The big winner was Game of Thrones‘ Jon Snow riding a dragon that blew out actual smoke.

At the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards, Lena Waithe became the first black woman to win the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.

The Emmy was awarded for an episode of Netflix’s show Master of None. She co-wrote the season two episode titled “Thanksgiving” with show co-creator Aziz Ansari, which chronicled her experience coming out as a lesbian to her family.

DISCLAIMER: this article has nothing to do with grand wizards or Harry Potter stuff (but “Expelliarmus David Duke!”). However, it does have some “Game of Thrones” spoilers in it … so be warned!

When I mention the names “Grey Worm,” “Little Finger,” “Ramsay Bolton” or “The Queen of Thorns,” I’m not talking about new categories for gay men nor of adult porn stars or even that new sarcastic bitch you met at brunch last week.

No friends: we’re talking “Game of Thrones” … the HBO sensation whose Season Seven finale aired recently. As I’ve been watching this amazing series this season it struck me what we who are fighting for the rights and equity for the LBGTQ Community have faced, and continue to face, has some striking similarities to the themes and stories within the “Game of Thrones” world, and I think there’s some lessons we can learn from a trip to The Seven Kingdoms.
