Chicago prosecutors drop all charges against Jussie Smollett

Prosecutors in Cook County, Illinois have dropped all charges against “Empire” star Jussie Smollett. On March 14, Smollett was indicted by a grand jury on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false report. He pled not guilty.

Smollett was summoned to an emergency court hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday where State Attorney Kim Foxx told him that all charges against him had been dropped and his record expunged. Smollett forfeited his bond and the judge also granted a motion to seal the case from the public.

Jussie Smollett pleads not guilty to lying about attack

CHICAGO (AP) | “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett pleaded not guilty March 14 to charges accusing him of lying to the police about being the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in downtown Chicago a few weeks ago.

Lawyer Tina Glandian entered the plea on behalf of the 36-year-old actor during a hearing in Cook County Circuit Court after Judge Steven Watkins was assigned to oversee the case, including the trial.

Actor Jussie Smollett allegedly paid $3,500 to orchestrate a “bogus” hate crime because he was “dissatisfied with his salary” on the Fox series “Empire,” Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a press conference on Feb. 21.

Smollett is charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report. He was taken into custody early morning on Feb. 21.

Chicago police: Jussie Smollett assault case has ‘shifted’

CHICAGO (AP) | Chicago police said Saturday the investigation into the assault reported by Jussie Smollett has “shifted” due to information received from two brothers questioned in the case, and attorneys for the “Empire” actor blasted reports alleging he played a role in his own attack.

Chicago police had arrested, then released the two Nigerian brothers without charges late Feb. 15 and said they were no longer suspects in the attack.

Chris Colfer to make directorial debut with ‘The Wishing Spell’ film

“Glee” star Chris Colfer will make his film directorial debut with “The Wishing Spell” for FOX, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps company will produce the big-screen film.

“The Wishing Spell” will be an adaptation of the first book in Colfer’s fantasy children’s book series, “The Land of Stories.” The six-part series focuses on twins, who after the loss of their father, find themselves magically transported into a world where fairy tale characters are real.

‘Rent’ announced as Fox’s next live musical

Fox’s next live production event will be the Tony-winning musical, “Rent,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The rock musical, loosely based on the Italian opera “La bohème” by Giacomo Puccini, will be adapted for the small screen by executive producer Marc Platt (“La La Land,” “Wicked”) and the estate of the late “Rent” creator Jonathan Larson.

LGBT voters overwhelmingly support Clinton heading into the first presidential debate

A majority of registered LGBT voters plan to vote for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential race this November, according to the latest NBC News/Survey Monkey poll.

Polling shows that, if the election were held today, 72 percent of registered LGBT voters would support Clinton, compared to 20 percent for Trump.

Fresh off being named the biggest 2015 moneymaker of all the American Idol alumni and getting a spot in the Universal Studio’s Mardi Gras concert series, Adam Lambert has signed onto FOX’s Rocky Horror Picture Show remake.

“I grew up watching Rocky Horror, but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision. Rocky Horror always made me feel like it was okay to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old time rock-n-roll,” Lambert said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

‘Deadpool’ film to feature pansexual lead character

The director of the soon-to-be-released Deadpool film has confirmed that the “merc with a mouth” will indeed be pansexual.

Tim Miller was asked in an interview with Collider if the film would feature a “hypersexualized” version of Deadpool like the one seen in the comics. Miller responded, “Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.”
