Beth Ford has been appointed CEO of dairy food cooperation Land O’Lakes. This marks the first time an out lesbian has been CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

Ford will take over for Chris Policinski who is retiring. According to Fortune, she is the first female CEO in Land O’Lakes’ 97-year history. Ford is the first gay woman CEO at a Fortune 500 company and the third openly gay CEO.

Five Florida companies receive perfect scores for LGBT equality

Washington, D.C. – Five Florida companies top the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2014 Corporate Equality Index, which ranks Fortune 1000 companies on their broad commitment to LGBT equality.

Tech Data Corporation in Clearwater, Carlton Fields law firm in Tampa and Darden Restaurants Inc. in Orlando all scored a perfect 100. Rounding out the list of perfect scores for Florida companies are Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Inc. in Jacksonville and Office Depot Inc. in Boca Raton.

Benefits for transgender employees continue to expand

WASHINGTON (AP) – When Koset Surakomol decided to have a sex change operation, the company she worked for told her co-workers that the man they’d labored alongside for a dozen years should be addressed as a woman going forward.

But EMC Corp.’s support didn’t end there: The data storage company paid tens of thousands of dollars for her to undergo hormone therapy, breast augmentation and facial contouring. It also will foot the bill later this year when Surakomol has the operation that will complete her transformation – a benefit EMC began offering in 2007.
