State Sen. Campbell: ‘The gay people have their rights, I have my rights’

MIAMI | Incumbent state Sen. Daphne Campbell (D-38) answered with “I have my rights” when pressed about her anti-LGBTQ record during an informal, unofficial senate debate Aug. 19. Campbell faced off with challenger Jason Pizzo on CBS Miami’s “Facing South Florida,” a local Sunday morning political show.

Host Jim DeFede, who moderated the discussion, asked Campbell about her 2015 vote, when she was a member of the Florida House of Representatives, to maintain the adoption ban for same-sex couples.

Central Florida candidates describe differing enthusiasm levels among young volunteers

ORLANDO | A push for stricter gun laws, among other prominent issues, has politically mobilized Florida’s youth; however, Central Florida candidates say they have conflicting experiences with the enthusiasm levels of young volunteers and voters.

Three Central Florida candidates — Eric Rollings, Susan Makowski and Anna Eskamani — discussed how national enthusiasm has translated at the local level during a June 27 Pride & Allies Meeting held at the Orange County Administration Building in downtown Orlando.

Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas endorse Rick Kriseman for Mayor

St. Petersburg | The Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas County have endorsed Mayor Rick Kriseman for re-election ahead of the Aug. 29 primary.

The organization, devoted to “advancing equal rights for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity,” is a Democratic organization that partners with the Democratic party to “support fair-minded Democratic leaders and candidates” supportive of their mission.
