We’re still waiting for the official numbers from Orlando Police Department but from our view atop the Watermark float, this looked like one of the biggest COWP parade viewing crowds ever.

Led by Grand Marshal Ginger Minj, colorful floats and rainbow-clad marchers filled the streets of downtown Orlando.

The Rainbow River Cruise came back to St. John’s River for the first time in over ten years on June 22.

Around 100 people were on board the Barbara Lee (not to be confused with Carol Lee) as it went down the St. John’s River to Lake Monroe in Sanford. The trip was a trial run for what used to be a regular occurrence over ten years ago, and will hopefully come back in the future.

The annual festival celebrating Tampa Bay’s LGBT community returns to St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District for its 13th anniversary June 24-28 and includes a fashion show, VIP reception, an outdoor concert, the return of the highly successful night parade and the outdoor vendor fair.

After a solid decade at Watermark, it’s time to say goodbye.

On one hand, it feels like I’ve been a representative of this newsmagazine my entire life. On the other, it seems like only a few months ago that I was a freelancer, frantically searching for the “LGBT angle” and the sources required of my assignments.

SteveBlanchardHeadshot_137x185Let the emails begin.

I am fully prepared for a flood of messages asking if I’ve lost my mind or if I’m happy that I’ve perpetuated a gay stereotype with this issue’s in-depth section on the local Leather Community. To each of those letters I plan to respond the same way: “Did you actually read the section or did you just see leather and immediately get offended?”
