Ricky Martin thanks fans for support over father’s illness

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Pop star Ricky Martin thanked his fans Dec. 24 for their support following the hospitalization of his father, Enrique Martin.

The singer issued a statement saying that he is “close to his father along with his nuclear family.” Martin asked that people allow the family to deal with the illness in a private manner.

This movie is, at its heart, about a parent’s love: what a father will do to protect his son, even if the boy may not be entirely his in the first place.

I know this goes against everything I’ve said before in reviews, but sometimes we love a bit of confusion, mystery, and vagueness in our films. It’s actually entertaining! I think it’s okay as long as the flick clears most of it up by the end. Not all of it; we still want to ponder as we leave the theater.

Argentinean man who abused 6-year-old has sentence reduced because child is gay

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Two Argentine judges are under fire for reducing the sentence of a convicted child abuser on the grounds that his 6-year-old victim had suffered earlier abuse and therefore had already been traumatized.

In the newly publicized 2014 ruling, the judges cut the sentence of Mario Tolosa, a sports club vice president, from six years to 38 months. They ruled that his acts should not be considered “gravely outrageous” in legal terms because the boy already “was making a precocious choice” of his sexuality, apparently a reference to homosexuality.

Hundreds remember father of gay teen, killed on cross-country walk

La Grande, Ore. (AP) – More than 300 people turned out in La Grande to remember a man whose son’s suicide inspired him to start a cross-country walk, a journey cut short by a fatal accident.

Joe Bell’s son, Jadin, hanged himself earlier this year in a schoolyard. He didn’t leave a note, but those close to him believe that the bullying of the gay teen led to his death.
