St. Petersburg celebrates sixteen years of Pride

St. Pete Pride drew 220,000 people to St. Petersburg for its weekend-long celebration last year, around 40,000 short of the Sunshine City’s entire population.

As any event of its size would, particularly one so intrinsically tied to the community it serves, the organization’s 15th year faced its fair share of cheers and jeers. For the first time in its history, the St. Pete Pride parade was held in downtown St. Petersburg rather than in the city’s Grand Central District.

George Wallace awarded highest honor at the Orlando Fringe’s 2018 Fabby Awards

Former Orlando Fringe Executive Director George Wallace was awarded the highest honor at the Orlando Fringe’s 2018 Fabby Awards.

Wallace was given the Terry Olson Lifetime Achievement Award during the festival’s closing ceremonies and 2018 Fabby Awards. The ceremonies were held on May 28 at the Outdoor Stage in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park.

One Orlando Alliance names former Alabama Representative as new executive director

ORLANDO | The Board of Directors of One Orlando Alliance announced the selection of former Alabama Rep. Patricia Todd as the organization’s executive director in a press release May 1. The selection follows an extensive nationwide search that began in August 2017.

Todd becomes the first executive director for the One Orlando Alliance, a non-profit group of more than 30 LGBTQ organizations formed in the days after the Pulse shooting on June 12, 2016.

Former head of Orlando Fringe named new executive director to The Center

ORLANDO | Former executive director to the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, George Wallace was named the new executive director to the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida by the board of directors Dec. 1, according to a press release from The Center.

“When I saw the Executive Director position become available at The Center, I immediately jumped at the chance,” Wallace said in the press release. “This is a wonderful opportunity, not only to return to my home and the city I love, but to work for such an established and crucial agency.”

ASAP and Francis House become EPIC, name new executive director

TAMPA – Empath Health announced Dec. 7 that the HIV service’s providers AIDS Service Association of Pinellas (ASAP) and Francis House in Tampa will merge under the new name Empath Partners in Care, or EPIC.

EPIC will become the largest provider of HIV services in the Tampa Bay area, including case management, counseling and pharmacy services, among other programs from its five locations in the region.
