DOVER, Del. (AP) – The state Senate has approved a proposed amendment to Delaware’s constitution guaranteeing equal rights based on sex.

The legislation failed to gain the necessary two-thirds majority in the Senate last month but was recalled and approved on a 17-4 vote June 6 after lawmakers added language clarifying the intent of the legislation.

Google launches fund that could donate $4M to ACLU, others

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) – Google has created a crisis fund that could raise up to $4 million for four immigrant rights organizations.

Google has confirmed a USA Today report that it is funding an initial $2 million for the fund that can be matched with up to $2 million in donations from employees. The money will go toward the American Civil Liberties Union, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the International Rescue Committee and the U.N. Refugee Agency.

Arizona Democratic lawmakers push anti-discrimination laws

PHOENIX (AP) – Democratic Arizona lawmakers who want to amend the state’s civil rights laws to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and veteran status appealed Jan. 30 to Republicans’ pro-business core to support the effort.

Democratic leaders said at a Capitol news conference that the state’s lack of protection is hurting its national reputation among businesses.

LGBT rights activist among 4 inducted into Columbus Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio’s capital city has four new Hall of Fame members, including an Apollo 7 crew member and the city’s first black supermarket owner.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and Councilwoman Priscilla Tyson announced on Oct. 24 that Carl Brown Sr., Donn Eisele, Lynn Greer and George Schmidt are this year’s inductees.

NY commission seeks artists to create LGBT memorial

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – A state commission is searching for artists to design an LGBT memorial honoring victims of hate, intolerance and violence, including those killed in June’s attack in an Orlando gay nightclub.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the memorial and established a commission to create it in the wake of the Orlando shootings that killed 49 people.

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — About a thousand members of sexual minorities and their supporters have paraded in Nepal’s capital to demand equality and implementation of their rights under the country’s new constitution.

Participants in the parade Aug. 19 in downtown Kathmandu said they still don’t have equal rights despite a constitutional ban on discrimination on the basis of sexuality.

After his Saturday Night live stint – where he and Justin Timberlake perfected musical numbers like “Dick in a Box” – Samberg’s career has had highs and lows. His series Brooklyn Nine-Nine just finished its third season on Fox. However, every so often, Samberg has also been stuck in crappy Adam Sandler flicks. One of his amazing – but less well-known – side projects is a great spoof band called The Lonely Island; here he and his band mates get to show that off. It’s the best part of this pop mockumentary.

White House weighs in on defeat of Houston Equal Rights Ordinance
