New emojis for 2019 include gender-neutral, interracial couples

The complete list of the new 2019 emojis was announced Feb. 5 and includes four variants of gender, gender-neutral couples and multiple options for couples of different skin tones.

The Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit corporation designed to promote and maintain the Unicode standard, approved the final emoji list for 2019. The list has been in the works since early 2018 and is scheduled for release through the later months of 2019, according to Unicode’s blog.

Apple releases gender-neutral emojis

Apple is releasing hundreds of new emojis including gender-neutral characters in various skin tones and age ranges.

Other emojis making their debut will be a mermaid, a dinosaur, a woman with a headscarf, a carton of Chinese food and a breastfeeding mother. There will be also an emoji hand signing “I love you” in American Sign Language.

Roy Moore’s Facebook page flooded with rainbow flag emojis

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – U.S. Senate candidate and outspoken same-sex marriage opponent Roy Moore is getting trolled on Facebook with hundreds of rainbow flag emojis.

Critics of the suspended Alabama Supreme Court justice flooded his campaign’s Facebook page with the symbol for gay pride. The rainbow flag reaction emoji was unveiled for LGBTQ pride month in addition to the “like” and other buttons. It was attached to recent posts and comments on his campaign’s Facebook page.

In Apple’s latest update, emojis get diverse

NEW YORK (AP) – Lovers of emojis, the cute graphics that punctuate online writing and texts, will soon be able to pick from different skin tones and depictions of families with two moms or two dads on Apple devices.

Apple Inc. has incorporated more diverse emojis into the developer version of the latest update to its mobile operating system. The iPhone and iPad maker has not said when the update will be available for all users.
