Sexually progressive and politically relevant, Kander and Ebb’s landmark musical details the end of an era. A playful and profound depiction of the early days of the Nazi’s rise to power in Germany, Cabaret focuses on the free-spirited world of Berlin’s nightclub scene. As the characters struggle with questions of sexuality and survival, we ask how do art, love, and life endure when fascism is on the rise?

When aspiring American writer, Clifford Bradshaw, arrives in Berlin on New Year’s Eve 1930, he has no idea what awaits him. On a quest for inspiration, Bradshaw finds himself exploring Berlin’s luscious underworld where little is as it seems. Join the ladies, gentlemen, lady-bois, Emcee and, of course, Sally Bowles as they initiate Cliff into the realities of surviving in Berlin. In mad Theatre’s immersive production, audiences join performers to create the hottest nightclub in Weimar Berlin: the Kit Kat Klub. Wear your 1920s and early 30s costumes and get dolled up for a night on the town in Berlin!

Using historical cross-dressers and 1920s Berlin drag clubs as inspiration, mad Theatre’s gender-bending production reimagines musical favorites such as “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Mein Herr,” “Two Ladies,” and, of course, “Cabaret” in ways that are sure to satisfy fans of the originals and delight those seeking a new take on an old favorite.

Andre Szymanski , Alexander Fehling, Fritz Bauer

It’s amazing to think that anyone could ignore the history of Auschwitz, where over 1.1 million people were exterminated. After the brutalities of WWII and the miraculous financial turnaround of the late 1950s, Germany wanted to do just that – forget. Ex-Nazis hung up their uniforms and quietly slipped back into civilian society. They and the rest of the country hoped that the past would stay in the past.

Labyrinth of Lies is an earnest German-language film about the investigations that brought famous Nazis out of hiding and to trial in the early 1960s. This time, Germans prosecuted Germans, ripping open old wounds.

To enjoy St. Pete Pride, be prepared with these hints

Even though St. Pete Pride is in its 12th year, you may not necessarily be as prepared as you think you are. With a new schedule, a few new rules and Florida’s unpredictable climate, we thought it might be a good idea to offer a checklist of sorts for the estimated 130,000 attendees headed to St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District the last weekend of this month.

Remember, this is a four-day event now, with a special Pride ceremony at City Hall at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, concert on Friday, June 27, a night time parade on Saturday, June 28, and a street festival on Sunday, June 29. It’s a long weekend, and to ensure you enjoy it, it’s best to be prepared and avoid surprises.
