Since it is pride month, we will be celebrating and sharing “coming out” stories as we socialize. There will be sodas and waters for a $1 donation (benefitting our LGBT programs). Feel free to bring a snack or a treat to share if you would like!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Government health advisers have concerns about lifting a nationwide ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, despite growing pressure against the policy from gay rights advocates, medical experts and blood banks.

But many medical groups, including the American Medical Association, say the policy is no longer supported by science, given advances in HIV testing. And gay activists say the lifetime ban is discriminatory and perpetuates negative stereotypes against homosexual men.

Herman Rowland Sr., Chairman of the Board for Jelly Belly, donated $5,000 to a group dedicated to overturning California Assembly Bill 1266, a law that guarantees transgender students have equal access to bathrooms, locker rooms, sport teams and other gender-segregated facilities at school. A group called Privacy for All Students is gathering signatures to have the law, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in August, repealed.
